Joining the Branding at Pike Mountain Ranch
At 9.30 am we arrived at Pike Mountain Ranch. It was like in the old western movies only this time I could be there myself. We were lucky taking part because this event takes place only once a year.
The owner and Charles, Kirra’s fiancé, captured the little calves so the other helpers could brand them. At the first time I was shocke as I felt sorry for the little cute calves.
After a while, however, I noticed that they are getting painkillers before and that they do not have to suffer so much from their adrenaline. It was so interesting and exciting to see. The people there all looked like the cowboys or cowgirls in the western movies, awesome. After branding we went to the inn to have lunch. It was a small cute cabin made entirely of wood. I felt right at home and imagined to go on vacation there. It’s perfect for that.
Right from the first moment I liked the people there. They were so friendly and open. Of course, the red cups were not missing.
Very impressive was the moose head on the wall. At first, I thought that was a fake because it was overdemational. However, it was a real one they had shot.
After lunch we went to Charles and Kirras Home. Charles taught us how to swing a lasso. It was really great.
The part after that is a bit disgusting. You have to know that the bulls were castrated during the branding. Traditionally, Canadians boil eggs and eat them. Yes, I tried it. It took a lot of effort, but I ate it. It tasted like chicken nuggets.
After this exciting day we drove home exhausted. Adam, Carly and I watched another movie before we went to bed tired after this exciting day.
